JEE preparation is a lengthy process, with thousands of applicants taking the exam each year. They put a lot of time and effort into their preparations, yet only a tiny percentage of them achieve their target rank. The reason behind this is that they make some common and avoidable mistakes. Let’s look at those common mistakes JEE aspirants make during their preparation and see what we can do to help all of you aspirants avoid the same.

Getting too many reference books

Less is more in this case. Study for the JEE test using minimal books and practise in study groups. It is pretty tricky and time consuming to switch between different books all of the time. After you’ve finished your IIT JEE curriculum, practise and rewrite what you’ve learnt in your  JEE advanced coaching institute. For the initial few days of IIT JEE preparation, stick to a few good JEE reference books of better quality and contain many practise exercises.

Not providing equal importance to all the subjects

Some students make the mistake of concentrating on their “favourite subject” or simply reviewing and revising topics they are already familiar with. Rather than focusing just on one topic, and intelligent exam approach covers all the courses with average preparation. Many IIT JEE candidates prepare selectively. Understanding the curriculum, test rules, and weightage of various JEE topics is critical, yet we all know how unexpected the JEE can be. Focusing on only one or two courses during your JEE preparation would not help you attain the target rank.

Not sticking to the timetable

As we have stated, JEE preparation is a marathon, not a sprint. So, it’s critical to maintain a steady pace. It’s pointless to study all night for two nights in a row and then ignore your books for the following five days. Put out a strenuous effort every day, and you will undoubtedly see benefits over time.

Failure to follow the JEE Syllabus

The JEE exam will never ask you to explain anything that isn’t on the syllabus. It’s common to get off track and study topics that are out of JEE syllabus during preparations. This will result in complete wastage of your time and efforts. So, make sure you know the JEE syllabus thoroughly. Place your entire focus on the JEE curriculum, nothing else.

Omitting difficult questions

JEE is a national level test with stiff competition and tiny margins of difference in the merit list. Omitting chapters that appear challenging is a sign of poor preparation.

Rather than avoiding the chapter, gather your wits and attempt to understand and grasp it. When you practise often, you also improve your ability to answer tough questions. Questions with various logic and ideas must be studied to master the exam syllabus.

Lack of self-confidence

Believe in yourself and your hard work. Self-doubt will erode your confidence, so try not to second-guess yourself over minor gaffes or poor performance on any of the exams.

Do not undervalue yourselves and your efforts or not be unsure of your abilities to learn. Getting too anxious before an exam is a common mistake that most JEE aspirants make that directly impacts one’s exam performance. Have faith in yourself and give it your all, and you’ll be successful.

Not getting enough sleep, exercise and leisure

We realise you’re studying for one of the most challenging examinations in the country, but it doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice or abandon your interests. Make sure to spare some time to do the things you love. Do not isolate yourself from your pals, and do not spend all of your time studying. Get some exercise daily. Engage in some other activity, whether playing football or going for a stroll, since this will freshen your thoughts. In addition, getting the right amount of sleep is also very critical.

Not asking doubts

Some students are hesitant and unsure of themselves when discussing their concerns with teachers. On the other hand, many people take a mock test but fail to analyse their results and figure out where they went wrong. Make sure you utilise all of the available resources you have. Approach your classroom with confidence and feel free to ask questions to your teacher.

Giving up

Most of the students start their preparation for JEE well with enthusiasm. But when time goes, they lose track and give up. To overcome this, Write down on a paper about why you want to be an IITian or about your dream and stick it in front of your study table or a mirror and this will remind you about your goal daily and get you motivated. Give your best in the last months of your preparation as this is important, and attend as many mock tests as you can.

In a nutshell, those mentioned above are the common mistakes most of the JEE aspirants make during their preparation. We hope you avoid committing these errors at all costs and ace the exam.
