Houston Arboretum &amp; Nature Center’s Spring Break Camp – Mammal Mania!

Monday, March 15 - Friday, March 19
9 a.m. – 3 p.m. (limited half day options are available)

Mice, Whales and other mammals, oh my! 

Register your kids for the Houston Arboretum’s Spring Break Camp, Mammal Mania, before limited space runs out. This camp will have your explorers learning all about mammals and the characteristics that they share with each other and human beings. They will be led through hands-on investigations about these particular animals’ acute senses of smell, coats of fur and much more. Students will even take a look at mammals that are unique to Texas, and armadillos and certain coyote top of the list.

The Arboretum has a long history of providing quality children’s nature camp programs in a 155-acre nature sanctuary?a living laboratory?to explore nature and science. This week-long camp features both indoor and outdoor adventures.  Children are taught by qualified staff naturalists in classes by age (5 &amp; 6, 7 &amp; 8, 9-12). You are able to choose between half or full day camps, whichever is most convenient for you and your explorer! The Health &amp; Wellness Expo 2010 is the perfect opportunity for families to explore fun and entertaining ways to stay active and healthy all year long. McGovern Museum of Health &amp; Medical Science, also known as The Health Museum, is a member institution of the world-renowned Texas Medical Center and is located in the heart of Houston’s Museum District. Munster, INDIANA – The incredibly popular and timeless true story The Diary of Anne Frank, comes to Theatre at the Center’s Theatre for Young Audiences Monday, March 15 through Saturday, March 20.  Anne Frank was a courageous Jewish girl who hid from the Nazis during World War Two.  While hiding in a secret attic with her family, she recorded in her diary each and every observable fact, coupled with her own reflections.  This play reveals the sensitivity and emotional struggles she and her family endured during the confinement. Theatre at the Center Theatre for Young Audiences is located at 1040 Ridge Road, Munster, Indiana.

The story begins with Otto Frank, as he returns to the attic where his Jewish family survived for years, hiding from the Nazis. Taking a trip back in time, Otto begins reading The Diary of Anne Frank which follows Anne and her family as she documents the events of her life.  Simultaneously with the production, a mini Holocaust exhibit and an informative talk back session with a docent sponsored by The Jewish Federation of Northwest Indiana will run. Viewings are available upon appointment.

Founded in 1991, Theatre at the Center is a year-round professional, equity theater at its home, The Center for Visual and Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Road, Munster, Indiana.  Theatre at the Center is conveniently located off I-80/94, just 35 minutes from downtown Chicago.  
 
Group performances are March 15 through 19 at 9:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.  The public performance will be Saturday, March 20 at 11 a.m.  Group prices are $6.50, adult tickets are $8.00 and groups 100 or more students are only $5.50 per student. For every 25 paid student reservations, one complimentary ticket will be issued. An activity guide is also available for groups. Individual prices are children, $7.00, and adults, $8.50. Vocalist/composer Eva Amaral joined forces with guitarist/composer Juan Aguirre in 1998 to form the pop/rock band, Amaral, and after signing with Virgin Records, they have won an avalanche of awards. Named “Best Spanish Music Group” at the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards, the critically-acclaimed group has taken Europe, Latin America, and their home country, Spain, by storm.  Now, they’re on the verge of something great here in North America. Last fall, their album, La Barrera del Sonido (The Sound Barrier), went gold in the first 15 days of its release, and it also recently won “Best Musical Video Production of 2009” in Spain’s prestigious Premios de la Música. Spend the afternoon in smaller groups to get a crash course in editing and participate in a field shoot. One of your afternoon sessions will require you to actually pre-produce one of your program ideas, so make sure you come prepared!

This is a popular partner dance is sexy, playful and surprisingly easy. In general it has reached a lot more popularity in recent years. More nightclubs are playing it, and therefore, more people are learning it. You will learn the following: the basic step pattern, giving and receiving turns, proper body positioning and hands, footwork styling options, several turn combinations, hip isolations, music theory.
